Road to California

So I am up at 6:30am at my brother's house in Upland so I can spend $16 and wander all over the Ontario Convention Center and spend $$ on fabric today.  The "Road" has been going on for awhile now, at least 20 years....this will be the first time I go.  A friend of mine came from Las Vegas to go with me, so it will be fun.  I really do not need more fabric.  I need to use up what I have!  But, this is the ultimate show and I love seeing what everyone else is making, the new machines that have come out....even if I don't need one!  I keep saying someday.......

We are also here at my brother's to check on a new place to live.  My Brother wants us to move closer.  At least he wants our Mother to move closer!  :)  I am just part of the package.  I haven't lived down this direction since 1975 when I lived in San Diego.  I spoke with the Walmart down the street yesterday.  I am hopeful for a transfer there.  They are an Academy store so it's important to have enough staff.  I really wanted to quit, retire, whatever you want to call it, but that's not going to happen now.  We will need new furniture possibly a  couch and new bed frames.  Plus have to make payments on a home...why is it soooo expensive to live now?  I just don't understand how they expect people to make it these days when rent is $2000 for a 2 bedroom apartment in a nice location.  I mean nice by saying a safe location.

Well, time to get ready to go.  One more cup of coffee and I'm out of here!

Project Linus

A new week.  January is nearly half over.  Three birthdays are coming up, Kristi on the 15th, Solomon on the 16th and Mom on the 28th.  Busy month for births.

Project Linus:
I managed to get one fleece blanket finished doing the braided edge.  It was so easy and Mom has finished one and has another in the works.  Three little babies are going to have a sweet, soft, cozy blanket soon.  Here is one of them.

I am also working on a "split rail" quilt for a preschooler.  I think it's going to be cute.  Who doesn't like Cat in the Hat?

I went looking for some Easter fabric at Walmart, yes, Walmart.  It was a particular pattern with bunny faces on it that you can only get there.  The fabric is for a dress.  It's only going to be worn one year, so it will be fine!  I only found fat quarters.  I think it'll work for the bodice, so I am all set to start my Kira off with a cute dress for the spring!

The weather is going to be wet this week, so I will definately try and get some things done.  Wish me luck.

New Year, New Reasons to Sew

A new year!  2019  I have lots of reasons to sew this year.

Loving the twirl!
  1.  I signed up with a group of Project Linus in the area.
  2.  I have time, if I decide to retire fully from my job at Walmart.
  3.  I have a 4 year old Granddaughter who loves twirly dresses!
  4.  I have a 1 year old Grandson who, well he doesn't care what he wears!
  5.  I want to start making dresses for my Etsy shop along with other little items like zipper bags, purses, grocery bags, quilts, and just about anything I can think of.
  6.  I have an amazing amount of fabric I have accumulated over the last couple of years.
  7.  I have UFO's, unfinished projects I need to finish!

I have made a couple of things already this year.  A pair of pajama pants for myself, and I am working on a quilted bag to take to the Road to California in Ontario later this month.  I have to have something new, handmade and fun to carry all my purchases in!

For Project Linus, I committed to one blanket every other month.....I want to do one a month.  Hopefully, that can be accomplished.  I did take a class at the local fabric store in Oakdale on machine quilting.  I am going to take them and try my best at longarming!  We will see if it comes out nice enough to give to a child in need.  I am hoping.  I just don't have enough room to quilt on my own machine.  A table runner is as big as I can deal with, although I did do a sleeping bag on my machine.  It was a lot to handle.
UFO

I did purchase 4 yards of 4 different fabrics on clearance to try and make differing sizes of one dress to put on my Etsy shop.  I am hoping I can get some hits and sell some things.  Another idea that my daughter and I have is to get some Christmas things made up for next year and head for the craft shows.  You just never know what people want though.  Bowl cozy's, stockings, placemats, Christmas dresses.......the list can be daunting.

So yes, New Year, lots of reasons to sew.  Did I mention my blog's name sake?  Kira is my Granddaughter.  She inspires me to make things, beautiful things.  I couldn't sew much when my girls were little, so now I have the best reason in the world to sew.  Kira.
